(Melissa Niya Swiee) the overal composition is balanced but the focal point draws you to the right of the picture. it is an open composition with the lines that continue off the page and there is a sense of a grid unification with some repetition. The second piece is balanced with the horizontal line that crosses through the picture though the bottom right is some what separated from the piece with the diagonal black rectangle. It is open and also grid like. The third had a main focal point at the bottom right and it is a closed composition. The picture is top heavy with the one focus on the bottom right. It is unified by proximity and repetition.
This blog has been created as a space to post and critique project examples from our class. ART 111 "Introduction to the Studio" is a beginning level studio course designed to introduce and ground students in core principles of art making in a rigorous, hands on studio. These principles will be taught through a series of practical exercises using traditional and digital tools. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills, knowledge of materials, methods of observation and translation, collaboration, discussion, and creative discipline.
